Malaysian car may integrate eCall System soon

Ministry of Transport (MOT) Malaysia is now studying the eCall system by Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS).

MOT encourages drivers to install dash camera to record incidents in case of emergencies, but it is still not enough. In the event of a serious accident, eCall can automatically dial 999 emergency number. It will automatically notify emergency services with accurate crash information when an accident takes place.

European Union (EU) already adopted this system and requires all new cars to equip the eCall technology from April 2018. There were 25,700 fatalities on EU roads and motorways. eCall is expected to reduce emergency response time by 40 percent in built-up areas and 50 percent in the country.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai added if everything goes well, the system will be implemented to all new cars in Jan 2019.
