Facebook Messenger to bring you live chat and bots to websites
Facebook Messenger now introduces a plugin that lets visitors to a website engage in live chat with a human or bot without leaving that website.
Stan Chudnovsky the Facebook Messenger head product make the announcement on stage at Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal. The new feature is one in a series of major changes announced today as part of the release of version 2.2 of the Messenger Platform.
Features such as ‘Message Us’ buttons or a ‘Send to Messenger’ plugin have already been available for websites on Messenger. However, live chat option with a human or automated bot has been introduced for the first time.
Currently while in closed beta, Customer Chat is now available on desktop and mobile devices. A conversation can begin on a website and continue on Messenger as it sync.
Other new key features in Messenger 2.2 is the media template feature. It allows businesses to attach to a call action button when sending videos, images, and gifs, or when sharing content from the web view. The media template also supports FB URLs.
