World’s First 3-Layer Smartphone Camera Sensor Introduced by Sony

World smartphone camera sensor pioneer Sony has officially introduced the World’s first 3-layers camera sensor this morning.

The new 3-layer stacked sensor is capable of processing a still image at 19.3-megapixels in only 1/120 seconds.

Sony is taking that game to the next level by revealing a 3-layer BSI CMOS sensor for smartphones that, thanks to modern technology, packs its own DRAM inside.

One of the advantages of the new sensor’s speed is the reduction of what is called focal plane distortion which happens when shooting fast-moving objects with a smartphone camera as they lack a mechanical shutter for exposure control.

Although Sony has yet to announced when it will hit the market, but we expected to see this sensor in near future.
