Qualcomm achieves the world’s first 5G network connection

Qualcomm announced Snapdragon X50 5G modem, its first mobile terminal for the 5G modem chipset in Hong Kong. In fact, this is not the first appearance of the Snapdragon X50 5G modem. It was actually released in October 2016.

Snapdragon X50 5G modem achieved a gigabit-rate and data connection over the 28 GHz millimeter-wave band. This result actually marks the 5G technology that has been in the basic technology research phase. It has gradually moved to the actual implemantation phase and will be in launch in 2019 or even ahead of time.

According to Qualcomm’s show, the Snapdragon X50 5G achieves an overall 1.2Gbps speed with two 28mm millimeter-wave channels (single channel theoretical speed of 625 Mbps), with a peak speed of 1.24Gbps. For the unit conversion, 1.2Gbps equal to 150MB/s, we often say that Gigabit network (> 100MB/s). It can complete the download of a high-quality 720P movie file about 1.5 GB in about 10 seconds.

The speed of 5G technology is the most important indicators can achieve people’s expectations. It also demonstrated the Qualcomm leadership in the 5G era.
