ookyo : a new prepaid brand riding on Maxis’ network?

ookyo is a brand new MVNO riding on Maxis Network. MVNO or mobile virtual network operator is a wireless communications services provider that does not own the wireless network infrastructure over which it provides services to its customers.

ookyo utilizes Maxis network for coverage and access, including 4G networks. There are two plans offered by ookyo, entertainment packs or social packs. Both plans are charged at RM30 per month.

All ookyo plans are given high-speed, free and unlimited usage of Social Media App such as WhatsApp, LINE, WeChat and Facebook Messenger data.

Let’s take a look at the differences between the two plans: social plans provide an unlimited social application of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Kakao Talk and Snapchat; while the entertainment plan is actually more focused on the music stream, it provides unlimited data for apps like Spotify, Joox, Musical.ly, Smule, Bigo, 9gag and Shazam.

ookyoo looks like a prepaid however it requires users to register with a debit card or credit card, as users will be charged each month before the next cycle. It is basically a prepaid, you pay before you get to use it. For calls and SMS, it charges 15 cents for 30 seconds of calls, and 15 cents per SMS.

For iOS users, one of the main benefits of ookyoo seemed not accessible. First, ookyoo gives a 10% rebate for each purchase, in the form of Google Play credit. Secondly, all unlimited data usage is available through the ookyo app only available on the Google Playstore.

The ookyo application is very important, it has a special VPN setting which is the gateway to unlimited application data. According to ookyo, without this application and the validity of using VPNs, the data will be charged in the normal use of 3GB quota.

From the footnote that states Copyright © 2017 Maxis Bhd (867573-A), , ookyo is seen to be owned by Maxis. Perhaps Maxis wants to introduce a brand new brand besides Hotlink.

ookyo states that all affairs are made online, not necessarily to visit any physical store. For registration you can visit www.ookyo.com.my Please standby your debit / credit card before signing up.
