MCMC: No ransomware attack in Malaysia

According to The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),  there were no ransomware attacks being reported in Malaysia amidst a massive global cyber-attack which hit nearly 100 countries.

The commission said in a statement that they will continue to monitor the situation together with other enforcement agencies.

Based on our report earlier, the latest ransomware —WanaCrypt0r 2.0 has hit computers across Russia, Ukraine, Taiwan and China, leading to PCs and data being locked up and held for ransom since last Friday.

MCMC advised local internet users to immediately take precautions including to update their software to the latest patch, to ensure that all hosts have enabled endpoint anti-malware solutions, and to immediately backup vital data to an external hard drive or cloud storage service, if they have not done so.
