Closure of 11 factories in Malaysia last two years

Factory contribute high number of job opportunity to the locals. After the closure of 11 factories in the recent two years, the number of people lost their job had increased.

Here is the list of the 11 factories that had been shut down:

  1. Japan Tobacco International (JTI) : just two month ago JTI announce Shah Alam Plant is set to close by end of 2017.JTI manufactures and markets cigarette brands such as Mevius, Winston, and Camel.
  2. Rubicon Technology Inc: advanced materials provider Prai Industrial Estate will cease operations on 30 November 2016. Production of polished and patterned substrates for the LED market
  3. Suzuki Motor Corporation: In August 2016, Suzuki has closed its motorcycling assembly plant, in charge of assemble scooters and kapchais which located at the Prai industrial area in Penang.
  4. Seagate Technology Plc: in July 2016, two of its manufacturing facilities in Penang and Negeri Sembilan to be closed
  5. British American Tobacco (BAT): March 2016 announced cease all activities at the plant which manufactures tobacco products (Dunhill and Rothmans cigarettes) by the third quarter of 2017.
  6. Samsung: February 2016, TV manufacturing plant in Seremban is shutting down.
  7. Western Digital Corp (WD): March 2016, closure of Bayan Lepas plant in Penang.
  8. Amphenol Corp: 31 October 2015, manufacturing facilities in Penang shut down.
  9. Fairchild Semiconductor International Inc: July 2015, the semiconductor multinational companies lose and sell its facility in Free Industrial Zone (FIZ) in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
  10. STR Holdings Inc: August 2015, closure announcement of OEM module production manufacturing facility in Johor.
  11. SunEdison Semiconductor Ltd.: August 2015, consolidate its business and cease operations at the Ipoh, Perak plant (semiconductor wafers).
