We have officially entered the year 2016. Now is a suitable time for us to change a new smartphone to start off the year.

Mdroid has compiled a list of budget smartphones exclusively for our readers that offers decent looking specs yet comes at affordable price.

Despite retailing at just under RM500, these smartphones still have plenty to offer which we are going to share our simple preview on them.


1. Meizu M2

The Meizu M2 was made available in the local market two months ago. With a suggested retail price of RM549 on its first sale, the Meizu M2 is now more affordable at RM479 only on Lazada Malaysia website.

Although it is being categorized in the budget price segment, it doesn’t mean the device has a cheap build quality. In fact, the Meizu M2 sports a classy unibody exterior look that does’t feel like it belongs to this category.

Under the hood, it is equipped with a quad core SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage along with a 5 inch 720p display. There’s dual SIM card slots on it that support 4G LTE connectivity.

Its 13MP rear shooter is also a rare gem to be found in this price group.

In addition, Meizu Malaysia still throw in a free back cover case and a tempered glass screen protector with every purchase of the Meizu M2.

The Meizu M2 is one handsome offer that’s hard for us to overlook.

Asus-Zenfone-Go2. Asus Zenfone Go

The Asus Zenfone series is one of the most popular smartphones in 2015. Asus Zenfone Go is one of the Zenfone 2 variant that focused on the lower price market.

It is also available at Lazada Malaysia for RM479 only. This device has a stylish yet clean look that is suitable for college students.

Specifications wise, it comes with a 5 inch HD screen, quad core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that is expandable with microSD card. There’s dual SIM card slots on it that support 3G connectivity.

Xiaomi-Redmi-2-4G3. Xiaomi Redmi 2 Enhanced

Xiaomi is the pioneer of releasing budget smartphone. And its Redmi 2 Enhanced is also one of the candidate for budget smartphones. The device is retailing at RM498 at Lazada.

This enhanced version Redmi 2 offers a 4.7 inch HD screen, Snapdragon 410 quad core SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage and also supports dual SIM with 4G LTE connectivity.

Xiaomi’s MIUI ROM is very popular among custom ROM as it is renowned to be a very stable and highly customizable ROM with lots of themes to use.

Huawei-Honor-4C4. Huawei Honor 4C

Huawei Honor series is famous for offering decent specs at budget friendly price tag. The Honor 4C is one of the good example for it. This device is priced at RM499 at Lazada.

Honor devices comes with good build quality hardware. Specifications wise, it offers an octa core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage. There’s also a 13MP shooter for shutterbugs.

It also has dual SIM card capabilities that support 3G network.

lenovo-a6000-plus5. Lenovo A6000 Plus 

Lenovo A6000 Plus makes it into the list with an affordable price tag of RM468 at Lazada.The A6000 Plus is also housing a 5 inch HD screen with quad core chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage.

Similar to the above devices, it also packs with dual SIM cards that supports 4G LTE connectivity.

BenQ F5 is the cheapest among the list with a retail price of RM399 only at Lazada. However, it still gives a considerable package with a 5 inch HD screen, quad core SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage etc.

On the Camera department, it comes with a 13MP shooter which is considered barely seen at phone below RM400. It comes with single SIM with 4G LTE support.

Its main weakness will be the lack of software updates. If that doesn’t bother you, the BenQ F5 is the bang for buck!

Most of the above list smartphones come with 720p display, 4G LTE connectivity, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. These core features are sufficient for our daily use.
