Have you ever experienced mobile phone lost or stolen and do not want it to fall into the wrong hand? Look no further, because MCMC are here to help you out! Earlier this year in February, the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched the Public Cellular Blocking Service (PCBS). The main function of the PCBS is to block lost or stolen mobile phone from accessing any given mobile network throughout the country. When you found out your phone is lost or stolen, all you have to do is report the incident to your telco and they will retrieve the IMEI number of that device from its network records and pass over to PCBS. PCBS will forward over the info to all telcos to block it nationwide. The idea of this process is to deactivate the GMS and UMTS radio band of the particular phone based on the unique identification number provided from the IMEI code. MCMC urged consumers to support this campaign and register our devices for free on PCBS BlockMyPhone portal where there are authorities and third parties that can provide assistance for us to find back the lost or stolen phone if there were chance for it to be found again. Users can register up to 10 devices from the portal. Does PCBS share the same function as SIM block? Apparently not. SIM block only prevents unknown person from using your SIM card when it is gone. It wont block the phone itself. If you are interested to know more about PCBS, just logon to www.blockmyphone.my for further details. Stay tuned with Mdroid for more exclusive technology news..
