Apple tops global smartphone sales in Q4 2016, Samsung retained top seller of the year 2016!

Samsung retained its position as the top full-year global smartphone seller in 2016, even though its sales for the 4th quarter fell behind Apple by 0.8 mil units.

78.3 mil iPhones were sold globally in October- December 2016, ahead of Samsung’s latest 77.5 mil quarterly count, which was clearly resulted from the Note 7 mishap, dipping 5% annually.

Expectedly, Samsung easily prevailed in the overall 2016 volume hierarchy, with a total unit sales of 309.4 mil, much higher than Apple’s 215.4 mil units. Both sales are however declining compared to 2015’s total sales of 319.7 and 231.5 mil units respectively. A group of rising Chinese stars is chasing after the big brothers.

Huawei is the divinable second runner- up in both Q4 2016 and full-year competitions, surging an exciting 31.7 mil units in total sales volumes for the year, and approaching double-digit quarterly market share for the first time.

OPPO has earned the best “star performer” status, with a 99% annual share growth and more than 84 mil smartphones sold in 2016, compared to less than 40 mil units in 2015. In fifth place, Vivo made an evident progress of its own, from 39 mil units sold in 2015 to close to 72 mil units in 2016.

The total global smartphone sales has improved 48 mil units within a year.
