When I first caught sight of the Acer Swift 7, it reminds me of the HP Spectre because the color almost the same but the Acer Swift 7 is a black and gold color combination, while the HP Spectre is presented in black and copper colorways. By adopting this color pattern, the Swift 7 appears to be more premium and elegant.
The golden Acer logo is placed at the center of the black aluminium cover and has a golden hinge connected with it. The surface of the Swift 7 is visually appealing but it will easily get stained with fingerprints.
The golden hinge have two light indicators for charging battery and battery power.
When we plugged in the charger, the charging battery light and battery power light will turn on.
Once we remove the charger, only the battery power indicator remain litted.
When I opened up the laptop, the keyboard is quite decent and it has the biggest touchpad when compared to the its competitors. I also saw the Intel I5 core sticker that at the left of the touchpad and the Swift 7 with silver color word on the right side of the touchpad.
It will has the total of 86 keys on the Acer Swift 7’s keyboard and the key on the Swift 7’s keyboard has 1.2 mm for each key, so it is very convenient for me to type and won’t accidentally type two keys at one time. Due to the Swift 7 do not come with a backlit keyboard, it won’t be a simple task to type in the dark.
Besides, the Swift 7’s touchpad is the widest touchpad that I have ever used and yet it can perform quick and accurate by using two finger scrolls.
The Acer Swift 7 will have two USB 3.1 USB Type-C ports that will be quite disappointed for users that prefer more ports.
Other than this, Acer also provide one USB Type-C to Type-A cable and USB Type-C to HDMI cable for users’ convenience. If you worry about performing screen mirroring on the swift 7, the Acer Swift 7 can handle it well as the battery can last for more than 6 hours. Moreover, it also has a headphone jack despite its slim construction.
The Acer Swift 7 measure a 32.5 x 22.9 x 0.998 cm for overall body and sports a 13.3 inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass. The Swift 7 color display is quite vivid and the details are sharp enough to have a clear view in Full HD resolution.
Swift 7 that equipped with Corning Gorilla Glass can prevent laptop display from getting scratched. It won’t break easily thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass protection.
Furthermore, we also tested the brightness of Acer Swift 7 that can get up to 319 nits with the Swift 7 impressive 105 percent color reproduction on the sRGB gamut to satisfy users on playing games, watching movies, listen music or doing any multi task work.
Acer Swift 7 will be running Microsoft Windows 10 Home System, powered by brand new 7th generation Kaby lake 1.2GHz Intel Core i5-7Y54 with dedicated Intel HD Graphics 615 and equipped with 8GB DDR3 SDRAM 1866MHz + 256GB SSD internal storage.
To test the Acer Swift 7 performance, we have tested it with a few software like PC Mark 8, 3D Mark Time Spy, Cinebench R15 and AS SSD Benchmark as below.
PC Mark 8 Creative Conventional 3.0
3D Mark Time Spy
AS SSD Benchmark
Based on the above test, we can said the Acer Swift 7 overall performance is considered good. This is because with the Kaby lake Intel core i5-7Y54 processor get the score of 2,269.
While Swift 7 get 1,987 score for 3D mark time spy and for the CPU test for Acer Swift 7 only get 210 on CineBench R15. Acer Swift 7 also get a score of 458 for read and 359 score for write in AS SSD Benchmark.
We also tested the Acer Swift 7 on graphic intensive games like Dota 2, although it using Intel HD Graphics 615 but we do not feel any lag during the gameplay but if we set the graphic settings to high graphic, it will suffer some frame drops and lagness issues because the Acer Swift 7 graphics does not attached with a high graded graphic card inside.
On the other hand, the Swift 7 cooling system is quite impressive because inside Swift 7 do not have any cooler fan but the temperature did not gone over heat although we play intensive games or watching Full HD movies on Youtube. It only will heat up when we test the graphics to the max. It is quite good for slim notebook and this might be one of the selling point for Acer Swift 7.
Other than Gaming, we also ran test on the Acer Swift 7’s audio performance. The Swift 7 speaker is located at the back of the keyboard and there’s only one speaker, but it surprised us as the speaker turned out quite loud and clear.
Moreover, the Dolby Audio software will have six modes for users to choose to experience better sound system like Dynamic, Movie, Music, Game, Voice and Personalize. Based on users requirement, they can choose which mode they like to experience in the Dolby Audio system on Acer Swift 7 and will deliver warm mids and clear highs audio to satisfy users themselves.
Battery life is one of the essential thing for an ultra thin notebook. The Acer Swift 7 only has 0.998cm thin and many people assume that this laptop won’t have a decent battery life.
According to Acer official said, the Swift 7 can has a decent battery life that up to 9 hours.
Based on our test, the Acer Swift 7 can’t get the 9 hours battery life like Acer claimed but we managed to stretch it for 7 hours 15 minutes on battery saver mode with continuous using Wi-Fi and the display’s brightness was set to 50 percent that comfortable for us. It is pretty amazing considering the swift 7 is categorized as an ultrabook which normally has mediocre battery endurance.
The world thinnest laptop with 0.998 cm thinness Acer Swift 7 sold at the price of RM 4,999 in Malaysia which features premium design, mid-range specifications and long lasting battery life up to 7 hours.
Overall, the Acer Swift 7 is a good choice for students or for those who travel a lot and seek for an ultrabook. This is because the Swift 7 is suitable for students and workers who wish to carry out office work, multi task, entertainment and its portability give users the convenient to carry it wherever you go.
Lastly, we hope Acer will consider to upgrade the laptop specs to match its premium design for the coming future so that we can see the real potential of Acer laptops.
