Only 50,000 had been paid in WanaCrypt0r ransomware

According to Elliptic Enterprises, a London-based company that tracks illicit use of bitcoin, only about $50,000 had been paid in ransoms as many users have never heard of Bitcoin and most users are confused how to exchange regular currency for the digital crypto currency.

After the ransomware began infecting users on last Friday, victims are given 72 hours to pay $300 in bitcoin as the crypto currency is harder to track than conventional payments or pay twice as much. Their computer would be permanently locked if they refused to pay after seven days. This most affect to victims who haven’t backed up their data regularly.

Elliptic Enterprises is now helping the enforcement to find the culprits. They said it’s almost impossible to know who the perpetrators are based on the bitcoin addresses they give to victims, but once the bitcoins are moved from that address, it can be tracked.
